Every facility that manufactures, processes, packs or holds food for consumption in the United States must register with FDA and renew between October 1 and December 31 of every even-numbered year. The 2026 window is open now.
Don't let it lapse. A registration that isn't renewed in the window is treated as expired. Operating without a valid registration is a prohibited act, and imported food from an unregistered foreign facility can be held at the port.
What you need before you start
- Your FDA Industry Systems account and current registration number and PIN.
- A Unique Facility Identifier (UFI). FDA currently accepts the DUNS number for the facility's physical location, and the address must match.
- Current owner, operator and emergency contact details.
- Your current food product categories and activity types.
- For foreign facilities, a US agent who has agreed to serve.
Renewal checklist
- Confirm the DUNS record matches the facility name and street address exactly.
- Review product categories, especially if you added products or processes since 2024.
- Update emergency contacts so FDA can reach a person after hours.
- Submit the renewal and include the required assurance that FDA may inspect the facility.
- Save the confirmation in your food safety records, where auditors often ask for it.
If anything changed mid-cycle, such as ownership, address or product categories, an update may be required within 60 days rather than waiting for renewal.
